Classtex Knitting Mills,
Inc.
Classtex Knitting Mills, Inc. is a family owned
and operated business celebrating its 60th year of
providing its customers with quality knitwear. Classtex was
founded by Josephine Rohrer and her late husband, Raymond Rohrer,
and began operation on March 24, 1946 on North Warren St. in
Orwigsburg, PA. Raymond had gained his manufacturing
experience from working with his father, the late J. Milton Rohrer,
at Rohrer Knitting Mill on South Wayne St. Orwigsburg.
Josephine and Raymond began their knitting
business making and laundering diapers. After the diaper
service went out of business the company began sewing and
manufacturing men's briefs, athletic shirts and tee shirts. In
the early 1960s, the company expanded and a second building, on East
Mifflin St. in Orwigsburg, PA was purchased. Although
Josephine Rohrer is still very active in the business, her son
Richard R. Rohrer is president and has taken control of the
operations of the knitting and sewing mills.
